David Finlay Pet Health Care Centres

Introduction and history:

My name is David Finlay and I am the owner of the business. I am also the webmaster. I am originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland and qualified as a Vet from Edinburgh University 30 years ago.

After graduation I took up my first position in a farm practice in Wigtonshire. 2 years later I moved to Hull in West Yorkshire. There I gained a lot of experience in a mixed practice, but found myself becoming more interested in pet practice. I then moved to Aldridge, in the West Midlands 2 years later and spent a further 5 years in pet practice. I moved back to Scotland and set up my Veterinary practice in Grangemouth Stirlingshire in May 1984.

We provide facilities for Grooming both dogs and cats, and for routine veterinary surgical and medicinal work. We are however breaking with tradition by integrating Grooming and shopping facilities within our Centre. The emphasis of the practice is about offering a complete pet health care package. We do not carry out any complicated procedures. Whilst we have in–house Xray facilities we prefer to use the specialist referral facilities either at Broadleys Veterinary Hospital in Stirling, or the Edinburgh or Glasgow Veterinary Schools.

Our emergency work is now handled by VetsNow Ltd, a Company set up recently to offer Veterinary Practices out of hours emergency cover. The emergency night and weekend clinic is now very much the trend and it compliments the services provided by David Finlay Pet Health Care Centres (very similar really to what has happened in Medical Centres throughout Scotland.)

I originally started at David Finlay Pet Heath Care Centres, as a trainee vet nurse , in January 1988. I worked very hard all on my own and with the help of my boss David Finlay I managed to pass all my exams and qualified as a vet nurse in 1995. I then gradually developed an interest in dog behaviour and training and again encouraged by Mr Finlay started to develop a program of Puppy classes in the Pet Health Care Centres. I also began instructing at my own training classes in 1998.

In 2000 I left the practice to pursue my interest in behaviour and training work and joined Dogs Trust (formerly NCDL) as a “Training & Behaviour Advisor”. During my 4 and a half years with Dogs Trust , I have gained a lot of practical experience and dealt with lots of different training & behaviour problems eg separation problems, aggression (to people & dogs), pulling on the lead, recall problems and many, many more too numerous to list.

I returned to the practice in Sept 2004 to take up a permanent position again . I hope to be able to use all my experience to help clients of the practice. I am sure I will continue to develop and enjoy my behaviour interests . I am very much enjoying being a Veterinary Nurse again .!!

QUALIFICATIONS RCVS Veterinary Nursing qualification. Certificate in Companion Animal Behaviour

I also regularly attend dog training seminars and workshops to continue developing my dog training skills. Please click here to find out more about my training classes I keep my website www.vetontheweb.co.uk/k9kapers regularly updated so please find me there or at the practice

Vetontheweb.co.uk Ltd

I have always had a keen interest in harnessing technology to facilitate matters within the whole business. My latest project has been to develop a new national web portal for all those with a vested interest in pets and vets. We have through Stirling Internet designed and set up a new all embacing web portal company Vetontheweb.co.uk Ltd. Through this web portal everyone will be able to participate. Vetontheweb widens the scope for participation by all.

Tony, the company's Managing Director, and Jane Boyes, the chief graphic designer, are fellow pet lovers and can tune in to the needs of other vets and pet owners alike. They have been able to demonstrate to me how powerful content management within a website site can be. (content management - the ability to update the content of the site from your home or office simply by logging in as a registered user).

Peter Neville, the well known Feline Behaviouralist has his own web page. When shown the facility his immediate comment was, "David, your site is awesomely simple to use and superbly designed. I have just fiddled a few minor changes very easily and all on my own and I am delighted to be part of it all."

We aim to develop this whole idea to be a nationwide and perhaps world beater in terms of networking in a very important industry.

We aim to offer our services to fellow Vets to give them the standard of internet design that is required these days. Cost will be extremely competitive.

Through our Pet Care Centre we aim to be able to supply ALL the services you need for your pets. I consider that the Veterinary Profession should be more involved in the overall wide spectrum of services that you our customers need. You need advice on which pet would be best for you. Which breed of dog or cat and where to find a good reliable source for this type of pet.

Please click the icon link on this page to go to this site and discover the myriad of opportunities that await. Join our Pet Club by registering. You will then have discount facilities on our Pet Shop, be able to participate in the lost and found pet section and even have an electronic pet log book which you can update and access at will from anywhere in the world!
