Pets Passport latest:

The PETS travel scheme allows pet dogs and cats to travel more freely between certain countries and avoid the need for six months' quarantine on return to the UK. From July 3rd 2004, the PETS travel scheme paperwork has been replaced with a pet passport. The same travel qualifying procedures have to be adhered to but the accompanying paperwork should be simplified by the passport (procedure involves microchip, vaccination against rabies, blood test to confirm immunity to rabies and no return to UK until 6 months after blood test).

The authorities understandably rely on accurate pet identification by means of the implanted microchip but there is a space in the new passport for an optional photograph. The idea conjures up lovely images of pets sitting in a photo booth getting four chances to catch their best side. More information about the passports (but sadly not passport photography) can be found on www.defra.gov.uk.
